Please join us for a talk on Design Thinking and Enterprise by Colum Lowe, UK based specialist on Design, Design Management, Innovation and Creativity.
Design Thinking has become one of the most popular and discussed concepts over the past years. Leading innovators in art, music, technology and business have practiced it, some of the world’s leading brands have adopted the approach, and Design Thinking is being taught at leading universities around the world.
Colum will explore why Design Thinking is important to start-ups and business enterprise. The talk will be followed by a discussion moderated by Assistant Professor Ersan Ocak, TED University.

Colum Lowe
Colum Lowe is a UK based advisor on Design, Design Management, Design Strategy, Innovation and Creativity. He has spent 30 years in the creative industries in a variety of successful and challenging roles. His design and management expertise crosses over the disciplines of interiors, products, graphics and branding with experience in both public and private sectors from large national organisations to small private consultancies. Colum has led several leading London design agencies and has held senior positions at Sainsbury’s and the NHS. He is currently working with the London Borough of Waltham Forest creating a Policy Lab, with the goal of transforming public services.
Colum Lowe is also Nesta accredited Creative Enterprise Programme Workshop Associate and is currently in Ankara to facilitate the workshop in collaboration with British Council, Nesta and IstasyonTEDU.
Ersan Ocak
Asst Prof. Ersan Ocak graduated from City and Regional Planning Department/METU (B.Sc.) in 1993. He got his masters degree from Urban Policy Planning/METU and Ph.D. in Social Sciences/Bilkent University. He worked in different universities in Turkey and joined to TED University, Faculty of Architecture in August 2017. He is the coordinator of Architecture & Urban Studies Graduate Program in TED University.
Ersan Ocak has given courses on urbanism, (visual) cultural studies, cinema, documentary, filmmaking, new media at undergradute and graduate levels. He has publications on urbanism, urban poverty, oral history, memory, documentary, new media storytelling. Ersan Ocak is also a filmmaker who produces experimenatal video works; makes documentary films; and develops video perfromances and realizes video installations.
Asst Prof. Ersan Ocak has given consultancy to different institutions in technology development, R&D, and innovation ecosystem in Turkey since 2008. He is mainly intersted in the social innovation through design thinking. He works with istasyonTEDU Center for Social Innovation and gives mentorship to several start-ups.
