English and Beyond in Higher Education
The British Council and Istanbul Technical University will explore and share ideas related to language teaching in higher education at a joint-event titled “English and Beyond in Higher Education”. The event will bring together rectors, vice-rectors, directors of schools of foreign languages and teachers on 15-16 February 2016. This is the second of a series of events to discuss the findings of “The State of English in Higher Education in Turkey – A Baseline Study”. This report is the largest of its kind in Turkey, covering 38 universities in 15 cities across Turkey. This two day event will help share and explore the challenges surrounding the Higher Education context based on this report.
We hope that the recommendations presented in the report will contribute to the topic of “Digital Technologies and Internationalization in language teaching at higher education” which will be discussed on the second day of the event. The desired outcome of the event is to create a shared understanding of the significance of English language teaching in improving the quality of tertiary education in Turkey.
