Role overview
As an Invigilator your main duties will be:
- Ensure all candidates have an equal opportunity to successfully complete an exam
- Ensure exam security before, during and after the exam
- Prevent possible candidate malpractice
- Prevent possible administration failures
- Training will be provided and is mandatory to attend, however experience of invigilating examinations or similar activities would be advantageous.
- Invigilators will need excellent communication and organisational skills and be able to understand and apply the British Council’s examination regulations.
- Good working knowledge of written and spoken English is essential.
Approval to act as an Invigilator
- Proposed Invigilators must complete an Invigilator Application Form and supply one original reference from a current or former employer.
- Proposed Invigilators must attend and successfully complete a training workshop led by the IELTS Administrator or an authorised trainer.
- Proposed Invigilators who successfully complete the training workshop must sign the ‘Code of Practice for IELTS Invigilators’ before they can be approved to act as Invigilators.
- Once approved, Invigilators must make themselves available for additional briefing / training as required.
Security and Confidentiality
- Invigilators must observe at all times the strictest security and confidentiality concerning live IELTS test materials.
- Invigilators must comply with all directions concerning appropriate security practices given by the IELTS Administrator or any of the IELTS test partners (British Council, IDP: IA or Cambridge ESOL).
- Invigilators must strictly adhere to all instructions from Test Day Supervisor or Administrator in regards to IAM Program management and usage.
- Invigilators should immediately report any suspected breaches of security concerning the IELTS test to the Test Supervisor, IELTS Administrator and the IELTS test partners, as appropriate.
- Any knowledge gained from invigilating must not be disclosed, discussed, reproduced or used for the purpose of IELTS preparation by Invigilators.
- Invigilators must acknowledge that all information received or viewed that is associated with the test belongs solely to the Test Partners and is confidential to the Test Partners.
- Invigilators are obliged to maintain this confidentiality for the entire duration of their employment with the test centre, plus two years.
