Aysel Abasova, Turkey – winning project idea

Aysel creates compost bins (Bokashi) for food waste by recycling single-use plastic waste generated in cities. His plan is to use single-use high-density polyethylene (HDPE) plastics to create the Bokashi buckets and source the plastic from landfills before it is sent to the landfill.

Thanks to a special yeast, Bokashi bucket owners have the opportunity to compost their food in just 15 days without worrying about odors or insects.

As Aysel explains, thanks to this project, 'plastic is produced by the Bokashi bucket; food is also recycled by humans'.
