In 1993 Mehmet graduated from Heriot-Watt University with an MSc in International Banking and Finance. Before this, he received a BSc in Political Science and International Relations from Boğaziçi University.

After returning to Turkey he had several management positions in the finance sector before joining Sabancı Holding in 1997. With Sabancı Holding he has worked in a number of key roles including eight years as the CEO of Teknosa.

Mehmet has been the CEO of CarrefourSA since 2013.
