In Conversation with Marina Warner (17 - 18 November 2019)

British writer Dame Marina Warner, acknowledged with her works on arts, mythology, symbolism and fairytales, met with her readers in Istanbul at two separate events on 17 – 18 November.

Warner has appeared both at the Women’s Library and Information Centre as part of the Feminaming Writing Festivaland at the Loca of Yapi Kredi Arts and Culture within the Women Power in Culture Programme of the British Council.

Marina Warner was in conversation with Özge Lena discussing women rights activism dramatized with fairy tales disseminated from Europe on Sunday, 17 November 2019, 16.30 at the Women’s Library and Information Centre. 

Warner gave her second talk “Coming Home in Literature: Words, Stories, Territory” on Monday, 18 November 2019, 18.30 at Yapi Kredi Arts and Culture – Loca with her translator Güven Turan. She explored the role of stories, both inherited and invented, in fostering a sense of place and building common ground among forced migrant communities asking if in times of violent conflict and ecological danger, when millions of people have been displaced, literature can be strong enough to help. 

Making Workshop with Monster Chetwynd (12-13 September 2019)

Worldly known artist Monster Chetwynd gave a two days workshops to 12 female dancers (Pınar Akyüz, Hilal Sibel Pekel, Bensu Yılan, Defne Uluer, Su Güzey, Diren Ezgi Yıldızkan, Aslı Melisa Uzun, Ezgi Künktakan, Ekin Önce, Olcay Karahan, Begüm Balcıoğlu and Ezgi Bilgin) from the Mimar Sinan University on interpreting her new installation ‘Gorgon’s Playground’ at the 16th Istanbul Biennial. After the workshops, she did a semi-public performance including the dancers and the work itself.
