Creative conversations on inclusive approaches to gender equality: Açık Radio Programme Series, 11 May – 26 October 2020

THE BRITISH COUNCIL HAS INITIATED A NEW RADIO SHOW ‘FESTIVAL ALANI’ (ARENA) AT AÇIK RADIO (94.9)  AS PART OF THE ‘WOMEN AND LEADERSHIP IN ARTS AND CULTURE PROGRAMME’ THAT IS BEING INITIATED SINCE 2017. 

The British Council has initiated a new radio show ‘Festival Arena' at Açık Radio as part of the ‘Women and Leadership in Arts and Culture Programme’ that is being initiated since 2017. Started from 11 May to 26 October 2020 and broadcasted at 14:00 every other Monday, Festival Alanı was aimed to create an inclusive platform where female professionals of the creative sectors and the civil society will be discussing good practices and new approaches to gender equality.

Festival Alanı is the preliminary programme of the WOW - Women of the World Festival that will be organised in Istanbul in 2021 by the British Council in partnership with the Women of the World Foundation. The radio show was presented by Esra Aysun, Head of Arts at the British Council in Turkey and will also act as the local curator of the festival.

The programme aspired to initiate an inclusive and open platform for current discussions on gender equality with manifold of perspectives and a constructive approach using WOW-Women of the World Festivals’ creative methodology.  Festival Alanı has hosted a wide span of female professionals of creative sector and civil society from various generations, experience showcasing new voices and alternative perspectives. Guests have talked about the outstanding topics of politics and leadership, sports, home life, identity, city, entrepreneurship, education, climate crisis, creative voices and justice.
