Artist Eda Gecikmez and Pera Museum’s Film and Video Programming Manager Gizem Bayıksel were the guests of the twelfth programme which will be broadcasted on Açık Radio (94.9) on Monday, 12 October at 14.00. Gecikmez and Bayıksel have looked at the recent much mediatic gender equality activism in arts and culture which is mostly accepted as an egalitarian sector.

Gizem Bayıksel has been working as a programmer, cinematographer and director in the film industry for over nine years. She has been involved in Pink Life QueerFest since the beginning of the festival and she was the festival's coordinator and programmer between the years of 2012-2017. In addition to serving on juries including Berlinale's Teddy Award, Faroe Islands' International Minority Film Festival and IQMF Amsterdam, she curated film programs for Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and International Film Festival Etiuda&Anima. Currently she is working as the director of film programming at Pera Museum.

 

Eda Gecikmez - Artist

 

Eda Gecikmez graduated from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Painting Department. During her undergraduate education, she studied at Valencia Polytechnic University San Carlos Fine Arts Faculty for one year. She participated in the Home Workspace Art Education Program organized by Ashkal Alwan Plastic Arts Association in Beirut, Lebanon in 2016-2017. She graduated from Yıldız Technical University, Institute of Social Sciences, Art and Design Master's program in 2019. Since 2004, she has participated in many group exhibitions both local and abroad, and took part in international art projects. Lastly, Gecikmez started her Proficiency in Art Program at Hacettepe University Fine Arts Institute Painting Department and continues her studies in Istanbul and Ankara.
