Özlem Ece of Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts and Dr. Hande Paker of Bahçeşehir University, were the guests of the eleventh programme, which was broadcasted on Açık Radio (94.9)  on Monday, 28 September at 14.00. Ece and Paker, looked at how sustainability relates to arts and culture and will talk about climate justice with a focus on gender equality. 

Özlem Ece - Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts

Özlem Ece is the director of İKSV Cultural Policy Studies department since its establishment in 2010.

She completed her bachelor’s degree in Public Administration in French at Marmara University and her master’s degree in Cultural Projects Management at Grenoble Institute of Political Studies. Between 2003 and 2008, she worked as project director and communication consultant on local, national and international projects in some of the most prestigious cultural institutions in Turkey. Throughout 2008, she worked as the General Coordinator of ‘Cultural Season of Turkey in France’, a project which was realised under the auspices of Turkish and French Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Culture and in collaboration with CulturesFrance. 

Ece, who continues to design projects and publications on cultural policy and cultural management, is also a lecturer at Istanbul Kültür University Department of Arts and Culture Management. Apart from being a member of UNESCO Turkish National Commission’s Committee of Diversity of Cultural Expressions, she is also a member of the advisory boards of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Arts and Culture Platform, Music for Peace Foundation, and WOW (Women of the World) Istanbul Festival.

Dr. Hande Paker - Bahçeşehir University

Hande Paker is a political sociologist who works on civil society, state, cosmopolitan citizenship, and political ecology. She has carried out research and published on modes of civil society-state relations, politics of the environment at the local-global nexus, and grounded cosmopolitan citizenship, with a particular focus on environmental struggles and women’s rights. Her articles have appeared in Voluntas, Environmental Politics, Theory and Society, and Middle Eastern Studies. 

She completed her BA in Boğaziçi University and received her MA and PhD from McGill University.  She has held the Mercator-IPC fellowship at Istanbul Policy Center, Sabancı University and has been a visiting fellow at CliSAP, Hamburg University. She is based at the Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences at Bahçeşehir University.
